Sample the sunsets of Santorini on a Crete holiday

One of the most popular places to visit is the tourist hotspot of Santorini, which is reached by a regular ferry from Crete.

Santorini is said to be the location for one of the largest volcanic eruptions the planet has ever seen and from the caldera it offers "breathtaking views of the volcano and neighbouring islands", according to Santorini.com.

The site also boasts that the sunsets in Santorini are "the best in the world" with many poets writing about them and artists attempting to capture their beauty on canvas.

On Crete itself, most villas are nestled in the north-west of the island hidden away among the countryside where villa guests are treated to white sandy beaches, traditional unspoilt scenery and local customs.
