Sample the flavour of Crete at the Tsikoudia Festival
Tsikoudia, or raki, is a strong distilled spirit that is synonymous with Crete and the festival will see it served up in a range of variations, according to What's on When.
At the event the spirit will be mixed with honey and various local produce to allow visitors to sample the real Crete.
Voukolies can be found on the west of Crete and is part of the Kissamos province.
Anybody considering a real, rustic Crete holiday could consider staying in Koymbari, an idyllic fishing port that is nestled between Chania and Kissamos.
The village of Koymbari boasts a long beach filled with pebbles of all shapes and sizes while there is also a promenade to walk up and down and watch the sea lap upon the shore.
Although the village offers a quiet, relaxing holiday, the promenade boasts numerous tavernas and waterfront cafes to allow you to sit back and order another Tsikoudia.
