Samaria Gorge
The longest gorge in Europe, it stretches 18 kilometres and descends from the Omalos Plateau at 1,200 metres high down to the village of Agia Roumeli at sea level.
Walking in the gorge also represents a good way for visitors to see the landscape of the area as it is a National Park.
Unique plant and animal species can be found in the gorge and holiday makers should be careful to not even cut a flower as the area is protected by law.
One of the famous species that can be found in the gorge is the Cretan wild goat, known locally as the Kri-Kri.
The trail is clearly marked and drinking water is available all along the route so holiday makers will find the challenging hike both enjoyable and interesting.
A great beach at Agia Roumeli is the reward for finishing the walk and visitors can relax and enjoy the sun and sea after an enjoyable hike.
