Rent a Crete villa to celebrate the Tsikoudia Festival
Those heading off on Crete villa holidays this November to enjoy some winter sun have the perfect excuse to try the island's favourite tipple.
The Tsikoudia Festival will be getting underway next month, celebrating this famous Greek spirit, which is also commonly known as raki.
Many variations of the drink will be available for Crete holiday makers to sample, including some that are served with honey.
Made from the must-residue of the wine press, the spirit has an alcohol content of 36 per cent, so is best accompanied with food.
Of course there will be plenty of local cuisine and traditional Greek delicacies on offer during the festival, so tourists will not have to worry.
The event is held in Voukolies, so those renting Crete villas in Stalos will be just a short drive away.
Stalos itself offers a good selection of tavernas and bars where holiday makers can try tsikoudia before the festival kicks off.
The resort is close to the island of Theodorou, so a boat trip out to its rocky coast could be a great way to spend a day.
