Rent a Crete villa and live an idyllic lifestyle

Crete holidays offer tourists the opportunity to enjoy an idyllic lifestyle during their break in the sun.

In an article for the Daily Mail, travel writer Fred Redwood said the island offers stunning scenery and great weather, while the locals live life at a leisurely pace.

He said holiday makers will be met with the sight of mountains, beaches and picturesque fishing villages when they arrive in Crete.

And whatever time of year they visit, the weather is unlikely to disappoint, with hot summers and mild winters. Mr Redwood said tourists can still swim in the sea in the cooler months.

One fan of Crete, who now lives on the island, is 62-year-old Alan Shaw from Kent. The expatriate told the Daily Mail that to really see the best of Crete, it is important to get off the beaten track.

"The secret is to find the real Crete and not try to live a holiday existence," he remarked. "It is a completely different, far slower, way of life."

Those seeking peace and quiet could rent a Crete villa in the countryside village of Loutra, which is set inland among the olive and citrus groves.

There are several local towns and villages nearby to visit, including Adele, Pangalohori and Agia Triada.
