Plenty of ways to honour Greek traditions while in Crete villas
Holiday makers can be a part of a pair of atmospheric Greek festivals if they book up villas in Crete in the months ahead.
The popular Mediterranean island will be full of activity in the early part of 2012, starting with the Rethymno Carnival.
Hosted across three weeks between February and March, the attraction represents the largest carnival in Crete and honours the unique culture of Greece.
Activities include those associated with dance, art and theatre, while a Grand Parade through Rethymno Town brings an array of colour to the Greek resort.
Families can also honour a historic date while occupying Crete villas on March 25th, when the island remembers the period when a Greek uprising thwarted Ottoman rule back in 1821.
In order to mark this event, a collection of army officers from Crete take part in the 1821 Memorial Parade through Heraklion's main street, with crowds gathering in the resort to mark their respects.
