Natural history museum: Crete
Spread over 800 square metres the museum reveals the complex cultural and ecological landscape of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Animal and plant collections give visitors an alternative look into the history of Crete and photos enhance the experience.
Forests, vegetation, beaches and endangered animals are all covered in the exhibition not to mention rock and mineral deposits and the evolution of Crete's land.
Open since 1980, the museum operates under the University of Crete and continues to study the history of the land.
An exhibition that reconstructs the environment of Crete as it was during the Minoan era is also there including a reconstruction of a Minoan cottage, detailing the everyday activities that people from the time might have undertaken.
Visiting Crete can provide holiday makers with a chance to sample natural history as well as the more traditional mythology and archaeology associated with the area.
