Healthy, tasty cuisine served up on Crete holiday

One reason to head to Crete for a holiday this winter is to enjoy the delightful food on offer on the Greek island.

Heidi Fuller-Love, travel writer for eastcretemagazine.com, says the cuisine dished up is of the highest quality and particularly health.

She explains there is a realisation among many that "what you eat is what you are", so a lean diet is highly desirable.

And that is just what is found in Crete, with olive oil "undoubtedly" the stand-out product on the island and included in many recipes.

"[People] are keen to consume the food that constitutes the famous Cretan diet - tourists are increasingly heading for restaurants where local olive oil, horta and other healthy food is served," Ms Fuller-Love notes.

The typical Crete diet is "officially" the healthiest in the world, according to a recent report by Quest Greek Islands, with fruit, vegetables and olive oil cited as key ingredients.
