Greek tourism on the up: Crete
Tourism in Greece can expect a fruitful winter, according to Jean Claude Baumgarten, president of the World Tourism & Travel Council (WTTC).
Visiting Greece in September, he told travel daily news: "WTTC has faced many bad situations in many regions around the world. What I can definitely say as far as WTTC is concerned is that we havent witnessed any negative impact for Greece for the coming winter and summer."
According to Ms Fani Petralia, the Greek minister for tourism development, 2007 has been a record year for the country, with more arrivals and revenues, she estimated that 17 million people will have visited Greece by the end of the year.
"Greece is on the top of the list of the international visitors and this is not by chance," she said.
This is good news for holidaymakers thinking of taking a winter trip to Greece, and Crete offers one of the most exciting destinations.
Lake Kourna is one of two lakes in Crete and covers about 160,000 square metres, a small beach provides an area for swimming and cafes and the breathtaking scenery will attract visitors from anywhere.
The surrounding area also has a Minoan tomb and a cave for the more adventurous or cultural of visitors to explore, holidaymakers are not far from the larger areas of Rethimnon and Chania so the area is perfect for a quiet holiday and a chance to explore.
