Greece villa holidays 'have much to offer'
Greece villa holidays are popular among British tourists as the country, with its beautiful islands, has a lot to offer.
According to the Greek National Tourism Organisation, islands like Crete are visited by many tourists from the UK between April and late September.
"They love sunny Greece so it is a very popular destination for the summer," said Sofia Panayiotaki, director of the UK and Ireland office.
However, he also pointed out that there is a growing demand for eco-tourism and outdoor breaks, which the Greek islands are able to meet.
Crete in particular could be a good choice for those looking to get active during their getaway, as its dramatic mountains offer some spectacular walks.
Ms Panayiotaki also insisted that despite the strength of the euro against the pound, Greece is not an expensive country.
Families looking for a cheap villa in Crete could stay in Platanias, as its central location on the island will make it a great base from which to explore.
The resort also has a long sandy beach and a good choice of bars and restaurants offering traditional Greek entertainment.
