Greece villa holidays: 'Corfu full of history and culture'

Brits who are hoping to snap up Greece villa holidays this summer have been encouraged to check out Corfu.

The island, on the north-western side of the European country, is home to plenty of sights and attractions to interest every tourist, according to Aggeliki Rouva, a spokeswoman for the Regional Unit of Corfu at the Greek National Tourism Organization.

For example, there is a "rich historical and cultural background" to be felt by tourists who visit this part of Greece.

"The abundance of monuments and sites worth visiting, as well as the wide spectrum of museums testify to the fact that Corfu has a lot to offer to visitors who have high expectations from their holiday destination," Ms Rouva explained.

Furthermore, with the island previously being conquered by Norman, Venetian, French, Russian and British forces in its history, "an amazing puzzle of architecture, gastronomy, music and mentality", the expert added.

Meanwhile, those looking for plenty of sun and sea on their getaway may also want to check out the Greek island of Crete, which "boasts miles of beautiful golden coastline", according to a Travelbite.co.uk writer recently.
