Experience local celebrations on holiday in Crete
Tourists in search of some winter sun and a spot of local culture may wish to book a holiday in Crete for this November.
During the month, the people of Heraklion take to the streets in honour of the city's patron saint, St Minas.
Although the event is fairly small, it is said to embody the spirit of the Greek island and offers travellers to it the chance to enjoy it in its most celebratory mood of the year.
The focal point of the party is a parade along Kalokerinou Street, which can be witnessed by people who are on holiday in Crete at the time.
When the celebrations are over, those taking a break in the resort will have plenty of time to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine and explore the island's vast, unspoilt beaches.
People planning to visit could be wise to take note of recent advice from Steve Macnaull, writing for the Calgary Herald, who said Crete is best explored in a 4x4 car.
