Euro exchange rate set to make Crete holidays more affordable

Recent exchange rate fluctuations mean that trips within the eurozone, such as Crete villa holidays, should be a more affordable option for Britons this year.

Duncan Higgins, an analyst at currency exchange firm Caxton FX, said the eurozone is "the best place for Brits to holiday this summer".

One of the main factors in British travellers' favour is the fact that the euro recently dropped to its lowest value against the pound for nine months.

"The pound is at its strongest point against the euro since August of last year," Mr Higgins said.

"By heading to the continent you'll be getting more euros for your pounds."

Caxton FX advised travellers to ensure they get the full benefit of the weaker euro by planning their budget in advance and using products such as a pre-loaded travel money card.

People who decide to take a Crete villa holiday this year can take the opportunity to visit some of the island's scenic beaches or see famous sights such as the ruins of an ancient Minoan city in Knossos.
