Enjoy some musical entertainment on a Crete villa holiday

Music fans planning a Crete villa holiday this summer will be treated to some live entertainment when the Casa dei Mezzo festival returns to the island.

The event will take place in Makrigialos on the east coast of Crete from June 24th to 29th.

Gunnar Stromsholm, founder and organiser of the festival, released a statement on its official website revealing some of the performances that are due to take place in 2010.

Highlights will include concerts by the Trio dei Mezzo ensemble and Norwegian pianist Sveinung Bjelland celebrating the work of composer Robert Schumann, who was born 200 years ago this year.

People planning Crete villa holidays will be able to attend events celebrating the birthdays of two other composers - Frederic Chopin and Ole Bull.

There will also be performances by Norwegian tenor Geir Eikeland, Italian saxophone player Guido de Flaviis and British baritone singer Mark Oldfield.

Low-cost airline Jet2 encouraged music fans to arrange a Crete holiday for the Casa dei Mezzo festival, pointing out that the event allows visitors to combine live music with the island's "balmy climate and beautiful beaches".
