Enjoy great hospitality on a Crete villa holiday
Christopher Somerville, author of AA Explorer Crete, told the Greek News that the social rules of the island mean that a friendly, embracing atmosphere characterises visits to the destination.
"The Cretan rules of hospitality mean that you have to be 'up for it', all the time you are a guest - dancing, drinking, laughing, shouting, arguing, eating, kissing, mountain-climbing, visiting," Mr Somerville told the publication.
But the writer's most recent venture introduced him to another side of Crete, when Mr Somerville walked from one end of the island to the other for three months to celebrate his 50th birthday.
In doing so, the remote hills and villages familiar to fans of Crete villa holidays came to life for the travel expert.
Meanwhile, it recently emerged that actress Jennifer Aniston is to visit Crete to reconnect with her heritage.
