Discover fine wines while on a Crete villa holiday
Wine lovers booking a Crete villa holiday will find that the island offers a fine selection of vintages for their enjoyment.
According to the Cyprus Mail, more than 20 per cent of Greek wine comes from the country's biggest island, which boasts a number of privately-owned wineries.
The general manager of the Michalakis Estate, Demetris Gouravas, revealed to the newspaper why Crete makes such exquisite wines.
He said: "The secret of good wine lies in the plants, the blessed soils and favourable climate conditions and the north wind of the Aegean Sea.
Among the top wines offered by the producer were the 2008 Vilana, the 2008 Evantis, from Heraklion, the 2007 Kotsifali and the 2006 Gold Cuvee, according to the newspaper.
As well as fine wine, people on Crete villa holidays can enjoy the island's busy nightlife and beautiful beaches, the culture and tradition of its cities and the wide selection of goods on offer at its shopping centres.
