Crete villa holidays are the perfect place to try snails
The festival of the Hochlidovradia takes place during April and honours one of Crete's favourite delicacies.
Translated as 'snail's eye' the festival sees a huge feast of snails cooked in various traditional ways.
Visitors will find that the food is the main focus of the event and it is often served along with tsikoudia as well as plenty of music and dancing to encourage an appetite for the traditional meal.
Crete has a rich history and holiday makers visiting the island have the chance to explore the remains of several ancient civilisations.
Minoan, Roman and Byzantine cultures have inhabited the island over the years and the Minoans are often associated with some of the island's oldest legends.
King Minos, Theseus, the Minatour and Icarus are just a few names of Greek legend that are associated with the island and visitors on a Crete holiday can see the remains of the ancient civilisations at many archaeological sites.
