Crete villa holiday makers can explore medieval settlements
Crete is a fantastic destination for people considering villa holidays that boasts plenty of history and architectural beauty, including exquisite medieval towns.
That is according to a travel writer, who highlighted the many delights on offer in the 13th century town of Chania, which was originally built by the Venetians in early modern times.
Tine Miles noted in the Liverpool Echo that there are a number of medieval buildings and attractions in the area around the town.
Nestled close to the mountains, the area offers a multitude of footpaths and trails for avid hikers and mountain bikers.
Commenting on Chania itself, Ms Miles said: "Here there were plenty of shops, bars and traditional Greek taverns, as well as an interesting Archaeological Museum.
"You are more or less guaranteed 13 hours of sunshine a day, and the temperature reaches the mid-20s in October."
She continued by noting that the food on offer in the region of the island was "an undoubted highlight of the trip".
People enjoying a Crete villa holiday may also wish to head over to the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, which chronicles the life and thoughts of one of Greece's most important modern philosophers and authors.
