Crete holidays 'set to be more affordable this year'

Crete holidays could prove a tempting option for people hoping to take an overseas break without spending too much this year, with a travel expert revealing that Greek destinations will offer good value for money.

Commenting on current trends in the travel industry, Ian Bradley, a spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), said it is "very tough" to forecast which destinations will be the most popular over the summer.

However, he predicted that Greece, along with other destinations in the eurozone, will perform well on the strength of their affordability.

"Greece will offer good value as prices will be dropping, but most of the eurozone will be more attractive than last year," Mr Bradley said.

"Spain, Italy and France are always old favourites and will remain relatively strong."

Demand for overseas breaks, such as Crete villa holidays, is expected to be high this year despite the recent disruption to air travel caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Mr Bradley described the event as a "freak incident" that will not put people off travelling.
