Crete holidays proving popular among British families

Crete holidays are proving especially popular with families from the UK who are looking to discover Greece.

According to the Greek National Tourism Organisation, many tourists are heading to the island for their annual getaway.

Sofia Panayiotaki, director of the UK and Ireland office, said Greece is still a value for money destination for British holiday makers.

On islands such as Crete, visitors can soak up plenty of Greek culture, but they also have the sun, sea and sand, she remarked

"You can find exactly what you want, beautiful landscape, beautiful scenery, very hospitable people and at the same time, very good prices."

Ms Panayiotaki said that every year, between 60 and 70 million tourists head to Greece for their holidays, a large number of which are from the UK.

Crete is one of their preferred destinations, she explained, as it offers numerous attractions and sights as well as beautiful beaches.

Families can rent their own Crete villas to see what all the fuss is about.

Bali may be a good place to stay, since it is situated on the coast in the middle of the island, so will be a good base from which to explore.

The resort is spread around three bays littered with traditional fishing boats and tavernas serving local cuisine.
