Crete holidays 'perfect for beach lovers'
Britons taking a villa holiday on the Greek island of Crete this year will be pleased to learn that the destination boasts some of Europe's beat beaches.
A recent report by the Telegraph revealed that Vai Beach in Heraklion is one of the island's finest.
The unspoilt sandy crescent once provided the backdrop for a Bounty chocolate advert and is surrounded by the largest palm grove in Europe.
Boasting warm, turquoise waters, Vai Beach is perfect for families looking to relax and unwind in the sunshine.
The Telegraph reports that there is a car park situated close to the beach perfect for families hiring a vehicle and there is said to be no shortage of fast-food outlets and traditional tavernas.
As Greece's largest island, Crete has over 1,000 kilometres of coastline and is one of Europe's most popular destinations.
The island is also well known for its archaeological treasures and is home to the Malia Minoan Palace, Fortezza and Gortys.
