Crete holidays attracting more interest from Brits

Crete holidays appear to be attracting more interest from British travellers this year, with more people searching for flights to the island, according to Skyscanner.

The company's statistics covering travel enquiries in June showed that Crete was among the biggest climbers, rising five places to 33 in the list of the most popular destinations.

Authorities in Greece will be "pleased to see" that consumers are still showing an interest in Crete holidays, according to Skyscanner, following fears that civil unrest in the country would affect its tourism industry.

People planning to visit the island this year can book villas in Loutra, Asteri, Kalami and other popular destinations along the coast.

The figures from the flight search engine highlight the ongoing popularity of holidays to Spain, with Malaga, Alicante, Palma and Tenerife continuing to occupy the top four positions.

Orlando rose two places and entered the top ten, a change that was attributed to the recent opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction at Universal's Islands of Adventure, which could provide a major boost for Florida holidays this year.
