Crete holidays: Most Brits planning a summer getaway this year
Crete holidays and other breaks in the sun could prove popular among Brits this year, with the majority (76 per cent) of people planning a summer break, according to a recent poll.
Online travel community TripAdvisor questioned more than 2,700 people across Europe for its annual summer holiday survey and found that only 11 per cent of Brits are not intending to take a break this year.
More than a third (37 per cent) are expecting to spend £1,000 or more per person this summer, while around a fifth (22 per cent) plan to allocate between £200 and £500 to their getaway.
The majority (62 per cent) of Brits taking Crete holidays and other trips this summer will ensure they get away from the stress of work by refusing to check their emails.
Emma O'Boyle, a spokesperson for TripAdvisor, said: "It's been a tough two years for the travel industry but it seems we have turned a cautious corner."
She added: "Despite airline strikes, an uncertain economy and an erupting volcano it's reassuring to see British travellers recognising the importance of a summer holiday again."
