Crete holidays: Brits 'budgeting for getaways this year'

British consumers planning Crete villa holidays and other getaways this year are making sure they do not miss out on their break by managing their money carefully, a new report has revealed.

The Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks carried out a survey which found that people are sacrificing some of life's "little luxuries" to ensure they have enough money to take a holiday.

Looking at the spending and saving patterns of some 3,000 Britons, the report found that consumers are allocating less to items such as make-up, clothes, meals out and hobbies this year and spending more on travel.

Families will spend more than ?905 on breaks such as Crete holidays this year, up from ?872 in 2009.

Steve Reid, retail director at Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks, said: "The survey clearly shows that people are changing their spending habits by cutting back on small luxuries so that they can afford the things that really make a difference in life.

"People are spending more wisely and putting more into savings so that they can enjoy worry-free quality time with friends and family and feel the positive impact of their spending."

Families who decide to treat themselves to a Crete villa holiday this year will have the opportunity to visit locations such as Elounda and Chania.
