Crete holiday offers access to 'bustling' Easter festivities
Staying in a Crete villa in April offers holiday makers access to some of the Mediterranean island's most interesting events.
This is because Easter is the time when Crete really comes alive, with the island "bustling with festivities" during the two-week school holiday period, cheapflights.co.uk said.
The island's Greek Orthodox religion places greater importance on Easter than Christmas, meaning that families on a Crete holiday can sample some local culture in addition to joining the celebrations.
Across Crete's towns and villages are processions marking the resurrection of Christ, events that usually culminate in a spectacular fireworks display.
Food plays a central role in the Easter celebrations - holiday makers can sample a spitfire feast and observe the time-honoured tradition of breaking coloured eggs.
According to explorecrete.com, the weather is ideal for a trip to Crete in Easter because it is neither too hold nor too cold.
This could encourage tourists to venture out into the island's countryside on hikes and walks, something that isn't always possible during the summer because of the searing heat.
