Crete celebrates Easter with burning of Judas
Anyone heading to Crete during April will have the chance to experience some of the exciting culture the island has to offer.
The town of Agios Nikolaos features much archaeology, Greek history and myth but during Easter the celebrations finish with some exciting and memorable festivities.
Easter Sunday is a time when Cretans join round a lake in the area and during the evening they commemorate the resurrection of Christ.
Bearing candles the crowd then sets a model of Judas on fire and the solemn atmosphere is broken by the sounds of fire crackers and the sight of flames.
Anyone interested in learning about the orthodox religion will have many opportunities during a holiday to Crete.
But aside from the religious ceremonies, holiday makers can enjoy the island's beautiful scenery including many beaches and different routes to walk.
