Chestnut Festival: Crete
Visiting the Greek island of Crete this October will coincide with the Chestnut Festival in the village of Elos.
The small village shows off its chestnut produce and reserves a special day devoted to the sweet and savoury delicacies.
This year the festival runs from the 26th to the 28th October and holidaymakers can expect traditional local entertainment as part of the celebrations.
Elos is surrounded by chestnut trees and also has natural running springs.
The village is a short distance away from Kissamos on the west of the island.
Holidaymakers may want to look around the town which is often known as the Kastelli, after the Venetian castle that is built there.
The town has a museum in the old Venetian governor's palace and mosaics dating from the Roman times have been discovered in the town.
So there are many activities should anyone on holiday be able to leave the side of the villa swimming pool.
