Chania a 'charismatic' place
This is the conclusion of an article in Quest Greek Islands magazine, which states that Chania has "many vestiges of its past" and could be considered as the most picturesque town in Crete.
It claims that Chania is a place where the old meets the modern with "fascinating" results.
"For those who want to do some exploring in beautiful narrow winding streets, spend time people watching and still laze on the beach, then this is the perfect choice," the article reads.
It points out that Chania is arranged in various quarters in which tourists can find Venetian architecture, museums, bustling markets and churches.
The harbour is home to numerous cafes and restaurants, as are the town's smaller back streets, where holiday makers can enjoy Greek cuisine.
Chania recently made the top ten in a list of the most charming small towns in the world as compiled by users of review website TripAdvisor.
Those eager to visit Chania can rent a villa in Kolymbari, which is a small fishing port on the way from Chania to Kissamos.
