Celebrate Valentine's in July on a Crete holiday
A trip to Crete can make the perfect romantic villa holiday for two and on July 3rd at Anogia's St Yakinthos site, love flows like Cretan wine.
The day was "originally celebrated not in order to replace the imported St Valentine, but to form the opposite pole to the completely commercialised day of love," the Crete Gazette reports.
According to the newspaper, Agios Yakinthos is the Orthodox St Valentine - the patron saint of love, youth and loving couples - and his feast-day falls on July 3rd.
On this day the town, found 740 metres up Mount Psiloritis, joins together in celebration.
Situated roughly in the middle of Crete, the breathtaking resort of Bali could be the ideal place to base a villa holiday, with its dramatic mountain scenery and close proximity to Anogia, Rethymno and Heraklion.
