Book a Crete villa holiday for hospitality and culture
Holiday makers booking into a Crete villa will find the local people full of hospitality and willing to share their culture.
That is the glowing endorsement of Cretans made recently by travel writer Catherine Mack, who shared some of her observations on the Greek Island in the Irish Times.
Among the highlights of her trip were sampling wines produced from the grape harvests in Malaxa and the traditional white stone architecture of Crete's rural buildings.
This is on top of the usual requisites of family breaks in the sun: "A villa, pool, endless beaches within easy reach, turquoise water, tavernas and copious ice cream."
Ms Mack also documented her trip to the beach at Kalathas, where the children were able to swim to a small island covered in flowers and climb over the rocky outcrops.
"Every beach in Crete has a taverna, which are a major part of the islands culture," she said. "They are everywhere else, too: our village had three, all excellent."
Beyond these attractions, holiday makers staying in a Crete villa will be able to explore the famous resorts of Rethymno and Chania, as well as shopping at the island's top-quality markets.
