Beware of the Minotaur at the Palace of Knossos
According to legend, the Minotaur of Greek myth lived here, prowling around a labyrinth located in the gardens of King Minos, What's on When reports.
The palace is the oldest settlement to have been found from the Mioan civilisation after being excavated in the early 20th century, which could mean it is one of the must-see attractions for historical enthusiasts visiting Crete.
With up to 1,500 rooms spread over five stories the Palace of Knossos was surely a magnificent sight in its former glory.
There is also an archeological museum on the site which houses some relics and pieces of the original decorations which previously adorned the palace walls.
As well as its historical sights, Crete boasts many lively cities, beautiful beaches and natural curiosities with attractive villas hidden away in secluded and peaceful coves.
