Be taken in by the lure of Crete
In an article for Examiner.com, Julia Drake said Crete, with its ancient towns, traditional Greek art and cosy tavernas, harks back to a simpler time.
"Something about the high mountain ranges and limestone peaks, the wide, fertile basins, small bubbling streams and slopes of cypress forests and wildflowers revives a time in our human past where life was still silent and simple," she remarked.
Ms Drake said a great way to explore the island is by bike on a guided tour of the Cretan countryside, passing through mountain villages, olive groves and orange gardens.
Greek amphitheatres, Roman cisterns and Byzantine monasteries are also common sights in Crete and can be discovered on a two-wheeled adventure.
A villa in the countryside village of Agia Triada could be the perfect choice for those planning some cycling excursions in Crete, as it is surrounded by large citrus orchards and olive groves and is also only a five-minute drive from the coast.
