Bask in the sunshine on a Crete villa holiday
Those jetting off on a Crete villa holiday this autumn will be able to bask in the warm sunshine later into September and October.
According to travel writer Nicola Iseard, the most southerly of the main Greek islands enjoys average temperatures of 26 degrees Celsius during these months.
In an article for the Guardian, she said many of the island's shops and tavernas are still open in the autumn, although many of the tourists will have left.
"One of the best advantages is that the island's well-known sights, such as the ancient Roman city of Aptera, are gloriously free of coach parties," she remarked.
Ms Iseard also pointed out that because the weather is not quite as hot as it is in the summer, hiking on the island is more pleasurable.
For example, tourists can visit the Samaria - Europe's longest gorge - on a day trip in between sunbathing, swimming and enjoying local cuisine.
Kalami villas may be a good choice for those hoping to do some exploring during their autumn holiday in Crete.
The clifftop village is just 30 minutes away from the city of Chania and overlooks the beautiful Souda Bay.
A visit to the Samaria is also easy from here, while Lake Kourna is not far from the village.
