'Relaxed lifestyle' in Crete
Crete may be the perfect destination for villa holiday makers seeking a relaxing break, the Observer has suggested.
According to the newspaper, the "sun-drenched" island is a popular destination for tourists, with some 2.5 million people visiting the island during the last year.
Bustling fishing towns, "spectacular" views and a lifestyle that is both relaxed and affordable are all reasons why Crete is an ideal destination for holiday makers.
Meanwhile, a recent survey compiled by TripAdvisor editors and travellers named Crete as one of the top three island destinations of the year, Reuters reported.
Described by one holiday maker as "an amazing place to explore ancient culture", Crete is the former hub of Minoan civilisation and hosts a number of attractions, including the breathtaking views while hiking down Samaria Gorge.
Other islands listed as top places to travel in 2008 include Ibiza, Mallorca, Corfu and Cyprus, among others.
Earlier this month, Donna Smith, a mother of two, told the Sun that Crete was a "fun" holiday destination for her family this summer, with accessible transport links for travelling all over the island.
