'Gorge' your senses on a Crete holiday

The gorgeous gorge is 18 kilometres long and fit and healthy individuals can walk the full length to treat themselves to some stunning scenery.

According to Dilos, even when the sun is high in the sky the gorge is always in the shadow, which helps make the walk an even more pleasant experience.

Previously used as a hideout during more turbulent years on the island, it is now the home to the Cretan ibex goats and lucky walkers could catch a glimpse of the rare goat.

The trek is a demanding but wholly rewarding one, so travellers staying in the bustling resort of Stalos, Chania, will be glad of a drink or two at one of its many traditional tavernas and bars and decide to spend the next day relaxing by their private pool.
