Maria Dolores Munoz of Pulpi told Euro Weekly News that the link will allow locals and holiday makers to travel between the town and the popular destinations of Andalucia and Murcia.
"This is an important step forwards in one of the most ambitious projects for the development of our municipality and our region," she says.
Pulpi also made it into the press in 2007 when it tossed the world's largest ever salad - featuring 6,700 kilogrammes of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers and olives.
Over 20 of the town's cooks got together and slaved for 20 hours to create the Guinness World Record.
Those who do not wish to explore Costa Calida and its weird and wonderful little rural towns could be equally at home at the golfing paradise that is Hacienda del Alamo - with its spacious villas, restaurant and superb tennis facilities, they may never have to leave.
