Stay at villa on Costa Blanca for spectacular festival
One of Spain's noisiest and most spectacular festivals can be enjoyed by travellers who opt to stay in a villa on the Costa Blanca.
Las Fallas features deafening fireworks that Jolyon Attwooll, writing a travel piece for the Daily Telegraph, describes as an "extraordinary symphony of noise".
Taking place in the port city of Valencia, just north of the Costa Blanca region, the event is typically scheduled for mid-March.
Recalling her experiences, Ms Attwooll states: "As I huddled, discreetly I hoped, behind a town hall turret, a new tsunami of noise was unleashed. Somehow, the volume had moved up a notch."
She notes smoke engulfed the colourful centrepiece to the city's main square, adding atmosphere and a sense of theatre.
Those living in the north-east of England may find it particularly easy to stay in a Costa Blanca villa, after budget airline Jet2.com's recent announcement that it is to offer flights from Newcastle to Alicante.
