Roman festival entertains travellers on a Costa Blanca holiday

According to the Costa Blanca Leader, Calpe staged the first Roman market since the Romans left over 1,000 years ago.

Romans, druids, slaves, a dancing bear and traditional market stalls selling foods and trinkets were on display to provide a hugely entertaining Easter weekend.

Cheeses, sausages and dried fruit accompanied beer, wine, pancakes and a pig on the spit to make sure travellers and locals alike were well fed.

Some visitors even cam dressed for the occasion by wearing a Roman toga to engage with the spirit of the occasion.

Holiday makers not visiting a Costa Blanca villa over Easter will have missed the event, but the region offers plenty of different festivals and fairs.
