Mount Montgo, Costa Blanca
Javea, the town on the Costa Blanca with a population of 29,000, has been home to humans for 16,000 years.
Artefacts found in the caves of Mount Montgo give evidence that Javea has been inhabited for this length of time with evidence of human life from the Upper Palaeolithic Era, as well as the Bronze Age.
Mount Montgo is the situated in the Natural Park of Montgo and there have been finds of gold and silver dating back from the third and second centuries BC according to The Costa Blanca Leader.
Agricultural activity in the area advanced with the arrival of the Romans and a settlement producing the fish sauce 'garum' was founded.
Energetic types can also climb to the 753 metre peak and on a clear day Ibiza can be seen on the horizon.
Aside from the archaeological attractions of the area, holiday makers can also be drawn to Javea for its architecture.
One of the area's best known landmarks is the Gothic church of San Bartolome which dates back to the 14th century and is officially listed as an Ancient monument.
So if you take your holiday in Javea you can enjoy the historic findings of Mount Montgo or the beautiful Gothic architecture of the churches, not to mention the beach.
