May brings out the crosses on the Costa Blanca

Located in Alicante, the area is home to the Festival of the May Crosses and is quite a spectacle.

The streets, balconies and squares are decorated with flowers that are arranged in the shape of crosses.

Dancing and singing accompany the event which is known locally as the Cruces de Mayo.

Visiting the Costa Blanca not only offers travellers a chance to see some of the cultural traditions of Spain but it is also an ideal time to relax in a villa and enjoy some warm temperatures.

Near to Alicante is the city of Torrevieja which is famous for the large proportion of salt lakes that surround the road from Alicante.

The harbour is a good way to see the area with the nearby museum of the seal and salt and the church of la inmaculata conception welcome distractions.
