Let Saint John's Bonfires 'light up' your Costa Blanca holiday
Known as The Fogueres de Saint Joan - or Saint John's Bonfires - the fiesta celebrates the summer solstice in spectacular fashion.
According to Whatsonwhen, 2008 marked the event's 80th anniversary and an extra-special commemorative programme of events took place - so organisers may be trying even harder to top last year.
The celebrations include a "huge firework display at St Barbara Castle" that can be seen all over Alicante.
"In addition to around 200 bonfires and fireworks, there is a huge programme of events all over the city," the site adds.
As all the celebrations are free to enjoy, those on a cheap villa holiday could be jumping for joy at the prospect of seeing them.
Before the festivities, holiday makers renting a villa in La Marina can spend the morning relaxing in the sun on some of the finest beaches in the Costa Blanca.
