Important palms decorate Elche
A procession is held through the streets of the town on Palm Sunday to commemorate Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem and results in large crowds of people meeting to watch the show.
Held on the Sunday before Easter week, the fiesta dates back to the 14th century and involves hundreds of local people.
Hand-crafted figures are carried through the town that range from palm branches right through to full figures.
The tradition of crafting white palm is still very big in Elche and the technique has been used for centuries.
Palm creations have been exported from Elche over many years and the palm branches are used in the procession before being sculpted into new creations.
A competition is organised by the Religious Brotherhoods of Easter Association that tries to find the best piece of palm sculpting at the procession.
The works are presented over a weekend in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall and holiday makers can admire the skilful craft of the local community.
