Holy Week is big part of Costa Blanca
Semana Santa (Holy Week) takes place in April and is a colourful and spectacular event with prayer and masses for visitors and locals to enjoy.
From Palm Sunday through to Easter, the there are processions around the town where the hermandades or brotherhoods, carry platforms with statues on them.
Maundy Thursday is one of the special ceremonies and on Wednesday a silence is observed at Midnight in a traditional procession in the district of Santa Cruz.
Non-Christian visitors can still understand and be moved by the most important time in the Christian calendar.
It also represents a great way for visitors to understand the religious part of Spain's culture and the Veronica procession on Good Friday heads towards the sea.
A throne embossed with silver that is carried as part of the Santo Entierro and Soledad processions move through the streets, that, in contrast to the solemn festival, are decorated in flowers.
Easter Sunday is a burst of celebration and marks the end of Holy Week with songs and concerts.
