Holy Week in the Costa Blanca
Beginning on Palm Sunday, the celebrations last for a week and were declared a Fiesta of International Tourist in 1997, the Costa Blanca Leader reports.
A large procession starts off the festivities and is one of the most important and spectacular in the whole week.
Large palm leaves and produced and waved through the streets to commemorate Christ's entry into Jerusalem.
Known as a popular expression of Elche's cultural identity, the festival is also home to a Palm Leaf Craft Workshop.
The palms from Elche are exported all over the world and the workshop is a small medieval flourmill where the traditions and old techniques of palm making are still alive.
Holiday makers will find that a visit to a Costa Blanca villa during Holy Week is a great time to get to know Spanish culture and will also hold many great memories.
