Holidays in Spain 'popular for winter getaway Brits'
Many Brits who looked to get away from the chilly weather of the UK over the last few months took up holidays in Spain.
According to a study by carhiremarket.com, a quarter of holiday makers in Britain chose Spanish destinations as a fly-drive trip between December 2010 and January 2011.
The top spot was filled by Palma de Majorca, the third year consecutive year that the location has achieved the honour.
Following up this resort was the popular Spanish villa getaways of Malaga and Alicante, highlighting the appeal of the European country.
Anel Bruns, product manager at carhiremarket.com, commented: "As the Met Office warned late last year that December was almost certainly the coldest since records began, many Brits took to the skies and flew off to sunnier climes"
For those planning to book villas in Spain this summer, Mr Bruns advised to snap up some car hire deals to avoid disappointment once the holiday arrives.
Meanwhile, research by Oak Power Communication recently suggested that Marbella has the best-rated beaches in Spain.
