Gastronomy in Moraira, Costa Blanca
The coastal Costa Blanca town of Moraira is proving a popular destination for foodie holidaymakers, with a cluster of internationally rated restaurants making it perhaps the biggest gastronomic hotspot on the entire coast.
Moraira, a charming seaside village, provides its visitors with a wide choice of eating options.
Cafes are to be found throughout the village, with Las Gaviotas, on the main square near the town's main church one of the most popular, with its emphasis on local produce. Traditional tapas bars are also open for business.
For serious gastronomes, Le Dauphin, at Playa del Portet is well worth a visit. Recommended by the Michelin guide, the seafront restaurant specialises in fresh fish caught in the nearby bay.
Valencian cuisine, which encompasses the northern part of the Costa Blanca where Moraira is found, follows the traditional Mediterranean diet of olive oil, fresh vegetables, fish, tomatoes and wine, with perhaps a slight emphasis on rice dishes.
Rice is cooked in a pan, a paella pan or even in the oven, and includes such famous local recipes as "arroz a banda" ("rice with fish") and "arroz con costra" ("rice with egg").
