Films, trains and ferries on a Costa Blanca holiday

Taking place in April every year, the Alicante Short Film Festival promotes the arts in general, as well as short films to make you laugh and cry.

Exhibitions, poetry readings and musical concerts will take place over the course of the festival, according to Whatsonwhen.

One of the main focuses of the event is to promote Alicante as a city of artists - as well as a major port.

The coastal town of Denia is just over an hour away from Alicante, but staying in a villa here allows holiday makers to visit the town and its film festival via a narrow gauge train, which could be as fun as the trip itself.

Those staying in Denia can also hop on a ferry and take a day trip to the Balearic Islands.
