Fall in love with Altea on a Costa Blanca holiday

Those looking to experience true Spanish charm on their Costa Blanca holiday should visit the small fishing village of Altea.

In an article for Hitched magazine, writer Sara Wilson said she fell in love with Altea during her time in the region.

"In Spain, paradise is called Altea," she insisted. "It offers a reprieve from all that is commercial and mass produced and entirely disenchanting."

Indeed, despite its close proximity to Benidorm, the village is quiet and traditional, with narrow winding streets and ancient buildings.

Ms Wilson said she enjoyed wandering along the promenade, which is lined with restaurants serving delicious local cuisine.

Within the labyrinth of the old town there are more eateries to be found, hidden away and "charming in their exclusivity".

One of the highlights of a trip to Altea is perhaps a walk to the top of the village where the Virgin del Consuelo church can be found.

From here, holiday makers can gaze down at the impressive view of the whitewashed rooftops and the pebbly beaches below.

Those renting Costa Blanca villas in La Nucia will be just eight kilometres away from Altea, making it easy to visit by car.

La Nucia itself is also a charming Spanish village with a small choice of local restaurants and bars.

Situated inland slightly away from the coast, it could be a great base for those who enjoy walking in the surrounding mountains.
