Enjoy the Moors and Christians fiesta on a Costa Blanca holiday
Britons heading to Spain for a Costa Blanca villa holiday this October might want to check out the Moors and Christians fiesta.
The spectacle takes place between October 2nd and 4th in Crevillent, which is in the province of Alicante, and sees the locals honour patron saint Francis of Assisi with a host of parades, fireworks displays and musical performances.
It will also bring 12 groups - six representing the Moors and six for the Christians - together to commemorate the fall of Moorish Crevillent to the Crown of Aragon.
Similar Moors and Christians fiestas take place across Spain throughout the year.
Other sights that Costa Blanca holiday makers could take in while in Crevillent include the Del Hondo National Park, which boasts a host of rushes, reedbeds and eucalyptus, as well as a variety of fish such as carp, eels, mosquitofish, grey mullet and toothcarp.
Meanwhile, the nearby city of Elx contains a UNESCO World Heritage site consisting of palm groves laid out in the tenth century AD.
