Energy-efficiency schemes introduced to Costa Blanca beaches
People who visit Costa Blanca villas at least once a year may see changes to the Spanish region's street lighting schemes upon their next stay.
The council of Benidorm has opted to alter the usage of such technology in a bid to save thousands of pounds on energy bills.
Costa Blanca News reports that the beaches of Poniente and Levante will each see street lighting cut by 50 per cent, while the coastline of Avenida Perez Devesa will see lights completely switched off from midnight.
Furthermore, those staying in villas in Costa Blanca in the resorts of Calles Bilbao and Almafra will be able to go for stroll at night aided by low-energy lighting schemes.
Benidorm council announced the strategies as it tries to cut its public lighting bill by at least 30 per cent, while also saving €400,000 (£347,326) per year.
Recently, families looking to snap up Costa Blanca villas were told of a plan by the regional public works council to create a rail link which offers a new route from Alicante to Valencia.
